Following the sudden death of Hussein Shariffe in January 2005, it was agreed by both friends and family that the entire works of Hussein Shariffe needed to be well documented and shown to all. Of the many different thoughts one idea suggested was of undertaking three memorial nights to celebrate his life in the three cities closest to his heart – Khartoum, Cairo and London.
As such a project of ‘Hussein Shariffe – A Living Memory’ was created with the following objectives:
- To convene memorial nights in the three cities to celebrate the life and works of Hussein Shariffe
- To create a website that will document some of the work that Shariffe has done
- To complete the film ‘of Dust and Rubies’
- To create a catalogue of Shariffe’s entire painting collection
